Illini 6 - Robert Morris 1

Bensenville, IL - The Illini took the short drive North to Bensenville to take on the Eagles of Robert Morris College, and it was almost like going home. The stands were filled with family, friends, and former players of the Illini, who easily out numbered the Robert Morris faithful. The Illini fans didn't go away disappointed as the Orange and Blue took it to the Eagles, netting six power play goals to take the game 6-1.

The wheels came off the Robert Morris wagon early, picking up 7 penalties in the first period alone, and the Illini would take advantage of their transgressions. Five and a half minutes into the game, halfway through the Eagle's first penalty, and 20 seconds into their second, the Illini's Alex Park wound up at the top of the slot and fired a laser into the back of the net for the first Illini goal. Helping set up the power play goal were junior Jason Nemeth and senior Johnny Liang. A minute and twenty-eight seconds later the Illini would finish off the Eagles second penalty as junior Jordan Pringle, in his first game back from an injury, would skate in from the side of the net and stuff the puck past RMC's goalie Micah Robbins. Senior Drew Heredia and freshman Tim Gilbert would get the assists on the Pringle power play goal. With just 2:45 left in the period, the Illini would once again be on the power play, and once again they would score as freshman Daniel Cohen would take a shot from the goalies left that would find the back of the Eagle's net, Joey Resch and Brad Hoelzer assisting. The Illini domination in the period would show in shots on goal, as the Illini sent 22 shots on net compared to the Eagles 6.

The second period would be much of the same as the Illini peppered RMC's Robbins with 20 shots while allowing the Eagles to only get off 4. Of the 20 Illini shots only one would find it's way into the Eagles net, and that would be with a little help from Drew Heredia as he picked up his 20th goal of the season. Helping set up the 4th Illini power play goal were Alex Park and Tim Gilbert.

It wouldn't be until over halfway through the third period that Robert Morris would finally get on the board as the Eagles Ross Lane would get behind the Illini defense and go one on one with Illini netminder Mike Burda, firing the only shot to get past Burda for the night. The Illini would answer back just two and a half minutes later as Alex Park would once again let go of a slap shot from the top of the slot that would find the back of the RMC net. Assisting on the fifth Illini power play goal were Jason Nemeth and Tim Gilbert. Less than a minute later the Illini would rack up another power play goal as Jason Nemeth would fire an off-balance shot from just inside the circle that Robbins couldn't stop. The assists on the sixth and final Illini power play goal would go to Jordan Pringle and Tim Gilbert, who would have four assists on the night. Shot totals for the game would be Illini - 48, Robert Morris - 18.

The win over the Eagle gave the Illini 4 more league points and sole possession of the CSCHL regular season champion title. The Illini will finish of league play with one final game against Robert Morris before heading into the CSCHL playoffs in Champaign next weekend.
