Champaign, IL - Another games against Lindenwood University where the outcome would be decided by one goal. Special teams was also another big factor in the game with again only one even strength goal being scored. The Illini matched goals with the Lions until finally able to take the lead for good in the third to win the game, and pick up 4 more CSCHL points, with a score of 4-3.
For the third game in a row against Lindenwood, the Lions would be the first team to find the back of the net. And for the third time in a row, it was Lindenwood's Cory Spradling that would score that first goal. Halfway through the first period, the Lions would get their first power play chance of the game, and Spradling would make it pay off, getting the puck past the Illini's goaltender Mike Burda. A couple of minutes later the Illini would have the power play advantage, and at the 13:16 mark junior Jordan Pringle would pass the puck from behind the goal line to senior Nick Fabbrini in front of the net, who would in turn fire it past Lindenwood's Lippert, tying the game a 1-1.
An Illinois penalty early in the second period would once again turn around and bite them as Lindenwood's Travis Bokina would slip the puck into the Illini goal just 4:09 into the period, once again giving them the lead. Four and a half minutes later the the Illini would even things up once again as they were given another power play opportunity. At the 8:29 mark Jordan Pringle would be the goal scorer, getting in a shot from the side of the net with senior Johnny Liang assisting. Another four and a half minutes later, and another power play chance for the Illini, but this time it would be turned against the Illini as pressure from Lindenwood would give them them puck and a short handed goal as the Lion's Carson Hamill would find the back of the Illini net. Lindenwood would outshoot Illinois 17 to 13 for the period and result with the 3-2 lead at the end of the second.
The Illini would bounce back in the third with a goal at the 4:37 mark, the only even strength goal of the game. Freshman Daniel Cohen would skate in front of the crease and send a backhand pass right to the stick of junior Pat Saliba who would fire the puck into the Lindenwood goal, sophomore Mark Ergun also helping set up the tying score. Just 29 seconds later, with the Illini on the power play, sophomore Brad Hoelzer would tee up a shot from just inside the blue line that would find its way through traffic and end up in the back of the Lion's net, giving the Illini the lead for the first time in the game. The Illini would be able to kill off a couple of penalties, and thwart the last minute charge by the Lion's to win the second game of the series 4-3.
The win gives the Illini 4 more league points, now totaling 8, and takes their record to 9-0-0.
