ACHA Ranking #2 released
   
October 19, 2007 - In a rare in-season battle of #1 vs #2, the University of Illinois used a sweep of Penn State on 'The Big Pond' in Champaign, IL to take over the top spot in Ranking #2 of the 2007-08 season.  The Fighting Illini, which also swept Central Oklahoma, received 44 of a possible 49 first-place votes.  Penn State narrowly edged out Rhode Island for the #2 spot.  The Nittany Lions received 2 first-place votes, while Rhode Island received three.  Ohio and Oakland split a pair of games in Athens, OH, and were #4 and #5 respectively.  Central Oklahoma, this weeks highest mover, used a 2-1-0 showing at the Showcase to move up another 5 spots and come in at #14.  Slippery Rock also parlayed a 2-1-0 record at the Showcase to jump up 4 spots and come in at #18.  Lindenwood used a road sweep of Liberty and a home sweep of Iowa State to move up 3 spots and come in at #6.  Debuting in the polls at #22 was Stony Brook.  Head Coach Tom Carroll's Seawolves, in their first year at the Division 1 level, impressed at the Showcase with a 2-1-0 record, losing only to Arizona, which also went 2-1-0 at the Showcase and rose into the #25 spot. The third ranking of the regular season will be released on Friday, November 2.
