Illini 4 - Central Oklahoma 0

Champaign, IL - The Illini goaltending and special teams were up to the challenge Saturday night for the second game with the University of Central Oklahoma. Illini's DJ Kohler spoiled the night for the Bronchos offense, keeping them off the board for the 60 minute challenge..

The first period came and went quickly and had limited interruptions as neither team could find the back of the net. The Illini were given two power play chances, and out shot the Bronchos 12-4, but just could not get the puck past UCO's Justin Sgro. The two teams entered the break, just as they had entered the game, with the score 0-0.

A late first period penalty against the Illini had the Bronchos start the second period with an extra skater, however things would be even once again as a an infraction was called against Central Oklahoma. With both sides skating 4 on 4, the Illini would finally break the tie as Johnny Liang would take a pass from across the slot and put it into the Bronchos' net at the 1:21 mark. Assisting on the goal were Drew Heredia and Jason Nemeth. The Illini would get an extended period of power play time with a Broncho in the box for a 5 minute major, and at the 6:42 point in the period, junior Tom Connell would fire a blast from just inside the blue line, and a redirect by senior Nick Fabbrini in front of the net, put the Illini up by two. Johnny Liang would get the second assist on the goal. Halfway through the period Central Oklahoma would have a power play chance, but the Illini would turn the tables on them. With the puck cleared down the ice, UCO goaltender Sgro would come out to make a play, but Illini's Andy Betourne would intercept the pass and rush in on the back pedaling net minder. Betourne's shot would be blocked but the rebound would end up on the stick of Jordan Pringle who would fire it into the Bronchos net for the Illini's first short handed goal of the season. The period would end with both teams putting 9 shots on goal, but with the Illini up 3-0..

A power play would produce another goal in the third period, and once again it would be in favor of the Illini. The Illini would take the puck into the Bronchos zone, and close in on the net, The Illini started firing and quickly there was a battle in front of the net. With goaltender Sgro on his back in front of the net, Jordan pringle was able to find the puck in the flurry of activity and flip it into the net for his second goal of the game. The Illini penalty killers would take the bite out of a couple more Bronchos chances, leaving them scoreless once again at the Big Pond. The buzzer would sound the end of the game with the Illini 4 and Central Oklahoma 0.

The Illini improve to 4-0 on the season with the sweep of UCO.
